Abstract
To attain future underground mine production considered to be necessary by the Department of Energy, voltages higher than the presently permitted 4,160 V must be carried to the close vicinity of the mining machines; otherwise, trailing cable size and weight creates handling problems. A project has been running for the past year to delineate approval tests and acceptance criteria for explosion-proof load centers that will permit operation inby the last open crosscut. The investigation includes fabrication and testing of a load center. Tentative specifications are presented in this report.
