A sampling and analytical method for the simultaneous determination of multiple organonitrogen pesticides in air.

Abstract
A method for simultaneously determining 14 organonitrogen pesticides was developed and analyzed. The Occupational and Health Safety Association versatile sampler tubes were used to collect the samples which were then desorbed with 2 milliliters of acetonitrile/0.2% (volume/volume) triethylamine-phosphate buffer, and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with dual wavelength detection. At least ten of the 14 compounds were determined using this method over a range of 12 to 240 micrograms per sample with an accuracy of +/-25% with 95% confidence. These ten included aldicarb (116063), captan (133062), carbaryl (63252), carbofuran (1563662), chlorpropham (101213), diuron (330541), formetanate (22259309), methiocarb (2032657), oxamyl (23135220), and propham (122429). Two compounds, carbendazim (10605217)/benomyl (17804352) and methomyl (16752775) met these criteria over a range of 12 to 120 micrograms. Additional samples of the remaining two compounds, propoxur (114261) and thiobencarb (28249776) would be needed to determine whether or not they meet this criterion. The samples were stable following storage for up to 30 days under either ambient or kept cool under refrigerated conditions.
