Abstract
A study was conducted to establish nontoxic propylene-carbonate as an extractant of general analytical utility and to develop methods for the trace determination of several elements, by extraction and subsequent colorimetric, polarographic, and atomic absorption spectrophotometric quantification, which are more accurate and sensitive than those currently in use. Methods were developed for the determination of iron (7439896) alone and copper (7440508) plus iron simultaneously by extraction colorimetric procedures. A method was developed for the simultaneous extraction of copper, cobalt (7440484), and iron into propylene-carbonate and subsequent atomic absorption spectrophotometric determination. Methods were developed for the extraction of gold (7440575), uranium (7440611), mercury (7439976), and cadmium (7440439) followed by polarographic quantification.
