Abstract
Fluor Engineers and Constructors, Inc. was the prime contractor for constructing a coal gasification and liquefaction facility for the WESCO group, in New Mexico. This report discussed a meeting which occurred regarding the WESCO project. Most of the operation for the facility was to be controlled from a centralized control room located across the road opposite the gasification unit. It was anticipated that the gasification facility would employ about 600 workers, with about 400 additional workers employed in mining, transportation and preparation of coal. The design of the coal handling operation was described including coal preparation, coal feeding, coal lock, gasifier, ash lockhoppers, crude gas quench system, carbon-monoxide shift conversion, gas cooling, gas purification, methanation, gas liquor separation, phenosolvan, and sulfur control.
