Abstract
The purpose of this program was to continue training efforts for safety and health technicians at Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport, Connecticut. The program began with a grant from NIOSH to train technicians skilled in the ability to support activities of safety and health professionals. The technicians were to be able to conduct routine field and laboratory activities such as monitoring, surveying and inspecting the safety and health aspects of a workplace, and assist in the training of employees to promote on the job safety. The training program was open at three levels: for those employed in safety and health vocations; for students who wish a certificate in occupational safety and health; and for students seeking an associate of science degree in occupational safety and health. Most of the enrollees have been older and employed full time.
