A "User Friendly" Computer For A Hazardous Waste Occupational Safety And Health Problem.
Martin-WF; Wallace-LP; Wood-JL; Mitchell-FL
A proposed user friendly computer based information system on occupational safety and health being considered by NIOSH is described. The system will contain a self paced instructional program to guide new users. The on line system will help a user identify hazardous substances by a series of information exchanges; the computer prompts the user with a menu list of options and information input needs. The system will provide both on line search capabilities and back up microfiche. It will also provide for a storage and retrieval of case histories so local hazardous waste operations can learn from past experience without the costly trial and error approach. The system will provide decision logic for the selection of personal protection equipment. One of the major advantages of the system will be the elimination of the need for highly trained personnel and sophisticated computer hardware.
