Problems and strengths in the organizational structure of NIOSH are reviewed based on data obtained from interviews with staff members. The functional activities, structure, and manpower within each organizational unit are described in relation to an organizational model. Problem areas within each unit and within the organization as a whole are identified. Recommendations involved structural changes, shifts in roles, and changes in relationships and management behavior.
