Abstract
The health effects of occupational exposure to shale oil are reviewed. Studies from the Soviet Union and Scotland are discussed. Dermatologic problems found in miners in a 1952 United States Public Health Service study are also discussed. A current study underway to determine respiratory and dermatologic disease among shale oil workers is described.
