NIOSH 1977;2(77-175):S1-1 to S1-8, S3-1, to S3-8, S12-1 to S12-9, S15-1 to S15-9, S18-1 to S18-8, S19-1 to S19-8, S20-1 to S20-8, S55-1 to S55-9,
The analysis of acetone (67641), 2-butanone (78933), mesityl-oxide (141797), methyl-n-amyl-ketone (110430), hexone (108101) (methyl- isobutyl-ketone), cyclohexanone (108941), 2-pentanone (107879), and diacetone-alcohol (123422) in air is described. The methods and procedures for the collection and analysis of air samples contaminated with these compounds and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are presented. The methods are evaluated and analyzed for their range and sensitivity under varying conditions; the Coefficient of Variation, calibrations and standards of the methods are given in order to determine their precision and accuracy. Apparatus and regents used in sampling collection and analysis are described as is the determination of the desorption efficiency of each of the ketones collected on charcoal. Possible interferences by water and other compounds are cited along with procedures for their elimination.
