Abstract
Results of hydrogen-sulfide (7783064) evaluations performed at the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, San Francisco, Nekoosa Papers Inc., Nekoosa, Wisconsin, and Shell Oil Company, Michigan oil and natural gas fields, reveal levels of hydrogen-sulfide equal to 10, 20 and less than 10ppm, respectively. All facilities have pre- employment and periodic medical examinations. All have self contained breathing apparatus, as well other personal protective equipment and respiratory protection devices. Some form of safety training and information is available at all three facilities, in addition to monthly safety meetings, direct reading hydrogen-sulfide monitors, periodic calibration procedures, labeling of strong gas areas and lines, restricted areas requiring work permit and special equipment, and special maintenance procedures for suspect areas.
