Abstract
This student manual contains course notes, illustrations, problems and references for a nine hour, college-level course in industrial hygiene surveying techniques. The course, comprised of five classroom lecture demonstrations and four workshop sessions, is devoted to recognition and evaluation of industrial hygiene hazards found during preliminary or walk-through surveys. The course is for students who have a fundamental background in the principles of industrial hygiene. On the spot application of hazard criteria to evaluate a situation is emphasized. Principal topics include review of general hazard variables, welding fume criteria, chemical hazard criteria, and physical hazard criteria. Control measures are considered for each topic. Ample illustrations, diagrams, photographs and graphs are given. Appendices include abbreviations and symbols, workshop problems, technical data, reading assignments and self tests.
