Project Scope

  • Implement REACH I&E interventions, evaluate the usefulness of the interventions and adapt the toolkit of resources for widespread U.S. distribution
  • REACH II- Assess hospitals’ written respiratory protection program policies, assess knowledge, beliefs and usage of respiratory protection among hospital managers, unit manager and healthcare workers


  • REACH I&E-14 of 16 REACH I hospitals participated in the follow-up testing of the toolkit. Assessment revealed numerous areas for improvement in implementing RPPs
  • REACH II- In the five regions(to date) 88 hospitals, 1400 healthcare workers and 260 observations have been completed to date
  • RTI- Data analysis with 5 region data sets


  • REACH I&E-Hospital RPP Toolkit developed and will be posted to the CDPH website (May, 2012)
  • REACH II- 4 of 5 regions have completed data collection and the 5th region will be completed by June 2012
  • RTI- Data analysis is currently ongoing will be completed by Sept,2012


  • Targeted educational products (webinars, presentations and fact sheets) will be developed using the REACH I&E toolkit resources and addressing REACH II RPP and respirator usage findings
  • Improved RPP compliance and respirator usage
