  • Provide PPT expertise and committee participation in updating existing NFPA protective clothing and equipment standards and the development of new standards

Project Scope


  • NIOSH membership and participation on NFPA standards committees in support of NFPA-NIOSH Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) to continue improvement to fire and emergency services protective clothing and equipment performance criteria, product standards, competency standards, and selection, care & maintenance standards

Milestones

  • Q1-2 Participation at NFPA Technical Correlating Committee (TCC), Technical Committees (TC), and Task Groups meetings and conference calls addressing PPE performance standards revisions and development of new standards
  • Q2 NFPA 1983 Standard on Life Safety Rope and Equipment for Emergency Services, 2012 Edition
  • Q2 NFPA 1992 Standard on Liquid Splash-Protective Ensembles and Clothing for Hazardous Materials Emergencies, 2012 Edition
  • Q2 NFPA 1994 Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to CBRN Terrorism Incidents
  • Q1-2 Continued revision process for NFPA 1851, 1852, 1855, 1981, 1989, 1999 Standards and NFPA 475 Recommended Practice document
  • Q1-2 Implemented new NFPA Re-Engineered Standards Development process on NFPA 1975 Standard

Outputs

  • Development and release of three (3) revised or new NFPA standard documents
  • Release of numerous existing standards for public review and comments during the revision cycle process

Outcomes

  • Development, certification, procurement, and deployment of NFPA compliant clothing, ensembles and respiratory protective equipment that will reduce inhalation and dermal hazard exposures enhancing responder health and safety
