  • Provide NPPTL PPT expertise to ASTM International Committees and Subcommittees developing and updating product standards, test methods, specifications, and practices.

Project Scope


  • NIOSH membership and participation on ASTM F23 and E54 committees in support of ASTM-NIOSH MOU involving determination of performance criteria and development of test methods, product specifications, practices, guides, classifications, and terminology related to worker and emergency responder protective clothing and equipment.

  • Q1 Participation in Jan 2012 ASTM Committee Week meetings for ASTM F23 Protective Clothing and Equipment and E54 Homeland Security Applications
  • Q3 Participation in June 2012 ASTM Committee Week meetings for ASTM F23 Protective Clothing and Equipment and E54 Homeland Security Applications
  • New Specification of Conformity Assessment of Protective Clothing Worn by Operators Applying Pesticides
  • New Specification of Non-Sterile Isolation Gowns Intended for Use in Healthcare Facilities
  • New Practice for Product Certification Process

Outputs

  • Development and release of standards, test methods, specifications, practices, guides, classifications, and terminology related to worker and emergency responder protective clothing and equipment ( www.astm.org ).
  • New Guide for Body Armor Measurement and Fitting
  • New Guide for Standard Guide to Assist PPE User Groups in Establishing an OSHA Compliant Respiratory Protection Program and on Respirator and PPE Selection, Use and Maintenance

Outcomes

  • Reduction in inhalation and dermal hazard exposures enhancing worker occupational health and safety.
