Project Scope

  • Develop a subpart for 42 CFR 84 regarding air suit respiratory protection requirements


  • Evaluate present air fed suit technology
  • Coordinate respirator / suit performance requirements with ASTM
  • Propose certification respiratory protection standards
    • Develop new STPs and SOPs


  • Develop a separate subpart for 42 CFR 84 that will allow for the certification of air-fed suit systems respiratory protection features


  • Improve worker safety and health though use of air fed suit devices that meet national recognized standards. Performance criteria and specifications for air-fed protective ensembles do not currently exist
