What will the program achieve?
Research Goal 1.10 - Develop a hearing protector device compendium

The compendium is updated on an on-going basis as manufacturers submit new information about HPD products and product availability (e.g., active noise reduction devices and non-linear devices such as the combat arms earplugs). The compendium will also be updated as methods for rating HPDs evolve (e.g., subject-fit, two-frequency fit-test). At the request of EPA, the HLR program is developing a noise reduction rating calculator based on a new draft rating standard ANSI S12.68-200X. The calculator will also be made available through the compendium. Finally, an evaluation study is planned to determine the ways in which information in the compendium is being applied by users. Such information will be useful in updating the compendium to maximize its relevance and usefulness.
