This infographic, aimed at mine workers, depicts six different types of damage that compromise the integrity of work boots. The damaged work boots featured in this infographic are part of a longitudinal boot wear study by NIOSH researchers, and, as noted at the bottom of the infographic, the potential hazards discussed align with criteria for work boot integrity set forth in the ASTM International “Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective (Safety) Toe Cap Footwear.” The objective of this infographic is to help mine workers know what to look for as signs of damage or wear to determine when to replace their boots.
