Coal Country is a Windows program that teaches children about coal formation, deposit locations, mining techniques, and common uses of coal in everyday life.

What can children learn from Coal Country?:

• Coal is used to generate over 56% of electricity nationwide.
• Electricity from coal powers lights and heat, air conditioners, televisions, stereos, most kitchen appliances, and the life saving equipment in hospitals.
• The coal industry has been transformed by technology, and is now dominated by computers and high-technology machinery that increase safety, productivity, and environmental efficiency.
• America has the second largest coal reserves in the world--enough to last nearly 300 years.
• There are about 1,000 tons of recoverable coal for every man, woman, and child in the United States.
• New technology has resulted in steady declines in emissions from coal combustion.
