PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water in large amounts, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!

•INHALATION Cough. Sore throat. Shortness of breath. Laboured breathing. Burning sensation. Headache. Nausea.
Ventilation (not if powder), local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness. Burning sensation. Pain. Skin burns.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
Face shield and eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Sore throat. Burning sensation in the throat and chest. Abdominal pain. Shock or collapse.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give plenty of water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
GREY TO YELLOW HYGROSCOPIC CRYSTALS OR FLAKES , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic and corrosive fumes . The solution in water is a strong acid, it reacts violently with bases and is corrosive. Reacts violently with oxidants . Attacks many metals forming flammable/explosive gas (hydrogen - see ICSC 0001).

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.
MAK not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful concentration of airborne particles can be reached quickly on spraying.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
