PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
On contact with hot surfaces or flames this substance decomposes forming toxic and corrosive fumes including hydrogen chloride andphosgene. The substance decomposes on contact with bases , forming flammable/explosive gas (hydrogen - see ICSC0001) . Reacts violently with oxidants. Reacts violently with water to produce hydrogen chloride (see ICSC0163) . Attacks many metals in presence of water.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.
MAK not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion. Inhalation of may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated. See Notes.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Lungs may be affected by repeated or prolonged exposure. The substance may have effects on the lungs , resulting in chronic bronchitis. See Notes.

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S

The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Toxicology of this substance is based on Hydrogen chloride See ICSC0163.
