TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Flammable.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 26C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 26C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE

 •INHALATION Sore throat.
Ventilation.
Fresh air, rest.
 •SKIN Redness.
Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
 •EYES Redness.
Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
 •INGESTION
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours.
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants. Cool. Keep in the dark. Well closed. Store only if stabilized.
Airtight.
UN Hazard Class: 3
UN Packing Group: III

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance can form explosive peroxides on exposure to air. Reacts with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour.

INHALATION RISK:
No indication can be given about the rate in which a harmful concentration in the air is reached on evaporation of this substance at 20C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract .

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES
Boiling point: 81C
Melting point: -89C
Relative density (water = 1): 0.84
Solubility in water:
none
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 2.8 (see Notes)

Explosive limits, vol% in air: see Notes
ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S
Relative vapour density: calculated value. Explosive limits are unknown in literature, although the substance is combustible and has a flash point < 61C. Insufficient data are available on the effect of this substance on human health, therefore utmost care must be taken. An added stabilizer or inhibitor can influence the toxicological properties of this substance, consult an expert. Check for peroxides prior to distillation; eliminate if found.
