TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Foam, powder, carbon dioxide. NO water.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

•INHALATION Cough. Laboured breathing. Sore throat.
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
 •SKIN Redness. Pain.
Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
 •EYES Redness. Pain.
Safety spectacles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection if powder.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
 •INGESTION Abdominal pain. Sore throat.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give plenty of water to drink. Rest. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles.
See Chemical Dangers. Well closed.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
WHITE TO LIGHT YELLOW CRYSTALS

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes (nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, isocyanate vapours, traces of hydrogen cyanide). Reacts with acids , alcohols , amines , bases , strong oxidants , strong reducing agents , water .

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.
MAK: sensitization of respiratory tract (Sa);
Carcinogen category: 3B;
(DFG 2005).
OSHA PEL: none
NIOSH REL: TWA 0.040 mg/m3 (0.005 ppm) C 0.170 mg/m3 (0.020 ppm) 10-minute
NIOSH IDLH: N.D. See: IDLH INDEX

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed, especially if powdered.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma.
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES
Boiling point at 0.7kPa: 167°C
Melting point: 130°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.42
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: < 0.001
Flash point: 192°C c.c.
ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA
Environmental Hazard placard The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.
N O T E S
Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water (above 50°C). The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact. Do NOT take working clothes home. Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification.
