TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 96°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 96°C use a closed system, ventilation.

EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS!

 •INHALATION Headache.
Ventilation.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
 •SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Dry skin. Redness.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
 •EYES Redness. Pain. Blurred vision.
Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
 •INGESTION
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours.
Separated from oxidants , rubber, plastics, aluminium, light metals. Dry. Ventilation along the floor.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS HYGROSCOPIC LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. TURNS YELLOW ON EXPOSURE TO HEAT.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides , carbon monoxide . Attacks aluminium, light metals, rubber, plastic.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.
MAK: 20 ppm, 82 mg/m³;
Peak limitation category: II(2);
skin absorption (H);
Pregnancy risk group: C;
(DFG 2005).

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will not or will only very slowly be reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C ; on spraying or dispersing, however, much faster.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes and the skin. If this liquid is swallowed, aspiration into the lungs may result in chemical pneumonitis.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxic effects upon human reproduction.

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S
N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone enhances the skin permeability for other substances. Insufficient data are available on the effect of this substance on human health, therefore utmost care must be taken. Card has been partly updated in October 2005. See section Occupational Exposure Limits.
NFPA Code: H2; F1; R0
