The chart represents nonfatal occupational injury and illness rates released earlier this fall by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). For calendar year 2007 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses among private industry employers occurred at a rate of 4.2 cases per 100 full-time workers. NIOSH groups the 19 2-digit industry sectors into eight NORA Sector Programs as indicated by the color coding of the bars in the chart.

The chart below presents nonfatal occupational injury and illness rates released earlier this fall by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).  The chart includes rates for U.S. Private industry and the 19 2-digit industry groups, the latter color coded to relate to NIOSH NORA Sector programs.  For calendar year 2007 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses among private industry employers occurred at a rate of 4.2 cases per 100 full-time workers.  Eight of the 19 2-digit industry sectors exceeded the rate of 4.2 per 100 full-time workers for U.S. private industry:  Transportation and Warehousing (6.4), Manufacturing (5.6), Health Care and Social Assistance (5.6), Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting (5.4), Construction (5.4), Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation (5.3), Retail Trade (4.8) and Accommodation and Food Services (4.4).
