Council activities are outlined below. Contact the Sector Coordinator with any questions or comments.
August 2009
Sixth meeting to develop and refine implementation plans. Each workgroup reported on activities, received feedback from the full Council, and selected specific implementation tasks to advance selected goals. Many of the tasks included contacting potential partners, establishing where missions overlapped, and then proposing to share data, hold joint workshops, or conduct collaborative research.
The Fishing Workgroup reported that the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Advisory Committee, which advises the U.S. Coast Guard, has adopted seven Action Steps in the National Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing Agenda as their own tasks or long-term goals. This decision is expected to lead to more effective partnerships to enhance fishing safety.
January 2009
Fifth meeting to begin the implementation phase. After discussing implementation of the National Agenda in general terms, each workgroup discussed potential partners and assignments for contacting people. The objective is to promote the National Agenda in the sector and facilitate partnerships to address NORA goals.
July 2008
Fourth meeting to refine goals and prepare for implementation. The workgroups will draft refined goals based on Council discussion of comments received on the March draft. Initially, implementation will include selecting action steps that should be accomplished first and identifying key partners.
January 2008
Third meeting to review workgroup draft goals. The draft goals and steps were discussed by the full council. Workgroups were asked to prioritize the Intermediate Goals and associated Action Steps. Plans were made to finalize a draft strategic plan for the nation for public comment. [See products page for March 2008.]
