Antimicrobial Use and Resistance (AUR) Option:
Protocols and Definitions By completing this lesson, you should be able to outline the impact of antimicrobial use and resistance in healthcare, identify the structure and purpose of the AUR
option within the Patient Safety Component of NHSN. Review the requirements for participation in
the AUR option and define location types required in the AUR
option. Describe AUR elements in the Monthly Reporting Plan, and demonstrate the use of AUR rates to
improve infection control practices and
antimicrobial prescription practices
Audience: This training is designed for those who will collect and analyze Patient Safety Component data or enroll a hospital into NHSN. This includes: NHSN Facility Administrator, Patient Safety Primary Contact, Infection Control Professional (ICP), Epidemiologist, Microbiologist, Pharmacist, and Data entry staff
