Entomology Branch

DPD's Entomology Branch works to reduce the threat of insectborne diseases to humans. The Branch focuses on vector control for:

  • malaria
  • lymphatic filariasis
  • Chagas disease (American trypanosomiasis)
  • onchocerciasis

The Branch also provides technical assistance on insecticide resistance, analysis of insecticides and malaria drugs, and on long-lasting treated bednets and indoor residual spraying programs.

The Branch assists in meeting the Malaria Research and Reference Reagent Resource (MR4) Center vector requests.

Chemistry & Resistance Team

The Chemistry & Resistance Team performs:

  • drug analysis to determine the causes of treatment or therapeutic failure;
  • insecticide analysis to determine the chemistry and application of insecticide on insecticide-treated nets and used in indoor residual spraying; and
  • insecticide resistance analysis to detect, assess, and manage insecticide resistance.
