The New Mexico Assessment Initiative Project is focused on providing technical assistance and building capacity around conducting and using health assessment in local communities. The project targets assistance to county health councils and tribes in New Mexico.

Long-term goals for this project include

  • Improving the knowledge of community health status in New Mexico;
  • Improving the quality and scope of community health assessments;
  • Increasing the number of communities that use data to improve program and policy; and
  • Institutionalizing the community health assessment gains that result from the project in the NM DOH's strategic and operational plans.

As a means to accomplish these goals, the New Mexico Assessment Initiative project hopes to produce a comprehensive statewide health status report on Native Americans in New Mexico and training modules focusing on building local capacity to conduct health assessment.
