Meningococcal disease - by year, United States, 1966-1996

The overall rate of meningococcal disease remained constant over the past year; serogroup was reported for only 19% of cases. Serogroup C meningococcal disease outbreaks, for which meningococcal vaccine is recommended, continue to occur. The ability to validate some aspects of recommendations for control of outbreaks is currently limited by incomplete reporting of serogroup information.
