Hepatitis - by year, United States, 1966-1996

Non-A, non-B hepatitis is the most underreported type of hepatitis. Nonetheless, the increase observed in this type of hepatitis after 1990 is misleading because, in some states, reported cases have included those persons identified in routine screening programs who were positive for antibody to hepatitis C virus but who did not have evidence of acute hepatitis.
