Injury Core Capacity Development
Rhode Island is one of 28 states receiving CDC funding to conduct injury surveillance as part of an overall plan for injury control. The general injury data collected for the Core Capacity program examine causes of injury rather than the nature of the injury itself. Rhode Island is one of 10 Core states that do not yet monitor traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Program Spotlight

Rhode Island Department of Health: Spreading the word about resources
To ensure that people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) know about available services, the Rhode Island Department of Health mails packets of service information to those entered in their TBI registry. Included in the packet are mail-back cards that recipients may return to request a copy of the Rhode Island Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Directory.

The health department’s Disability and Health Program and Early Intervention Program are currently exploring models for outreach to parents of children with TBI who are identified through the registry.
