Phase Two Milestones

  • Assessed 5 out of the 11 of the core data sets.

 
Program Highlights

Technical assistance provided by the state:

  • Assisted the Michigan Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Board in developing procedures for implementing Michigan's domestic violence fatality review process and coordinating data collection efforts with the MDCH Intimate Partner Violence Homicide Surveillance System.
  • Provided child passenger safety technical assistance to parents and other caregivers.
  • Collaborated with the MDCH Long-Term Care Program in compiling and analyzing traumatic brain injury mortality and morbidity data.

Injury activities initiated within the state:

  • Received a CDC Targeted Injury Intervention Grant to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of a hospital-based geriatric fall prevention clinic that will offer multifactorial interventions to reduce fall risks.
  • Conducted focus groups to gather input from parents and caregivers of children ages 4-8 to develop effective messages to promote booster seat use. Two radio public service announcements and a brochure were developed are available through the MDCH Clearinghouse.
  • A comprehensive state plan for the prevention of violence against women will be completed in March 2003 The overall goal of the project is to develop a strong infrastructure in MI that makes it easier for the media to influence appropriate social norms around sexual violence.

Evaluation activities within state:

  • Provide ongoing evaluation technical assistance and training to projects funded through the Rape and Sexual Assault Prevention and Education grants program.
  • Developing and presenting a training to help projects utilize evaluation results.
  • Conducting intensive, one-on-one site visits with each project to provide individual consultation regarding new evaluation needs and to help projects develop appropriate evaluation strategies and tools.
