Activities Proposed for FY 05
Antimicrobial Resistance, Food Safety, Hepatitis Prevention and Control, Influenza Surveillance and Response, National Electronic Disease Surveillance System, and West Nile Virus
Key Performance Indicators
Antimicrobial Resistance
- Number of conference and health fair exhibits attended by AWARE staff and volunteers.
- Amount of materials ordered and distributed at conferences and health fairs.
- Total circulation/impressions from media outlets covering AWARE press releases and other media activities.
- Percentage of Oregonians who have taken antibiotics in the last 4 weeks and who know of the dangers of antibiotic resistance.
Food Safety
- Proportion of isolates run with on enzyme, and proportion run with second enzyme.
- Number of isolates received and tested for foodborne viruses.
- Percent of positive isolates sequenced.
- Number of isolates (by species) sent to CDC for antimicrobial testing.
Hepatitis Prevention and Control
- Number of HCV advisory group meetings held.
- Number of HCV-harm reduction integration trainings delivered to local health department and community-based organization staff, persons at risk for contracting, or living with HCV, licenses piercing and tattoo professionals, corrections health staff, IDU outreach workers, and a multitude of social service providers.
- Number of HCV education trainings delivered to lay community members.
Influenza Surveillance and Response
- Number of providers who report during the influenza season.
- Number of providers who report year-round.
- Number of specimens sent to OSPHL for testing.
- Number of isolates received for influenza testing and proportion positive for influenza.
- Influenza typing and sub typing results.
- Median turnaround time for processing of specimens.
National Electronic Disease Surveillance System
- Establish email notifications of faxed lab reports by disease or condition to LHDs, April-June 2005.
- Set-up and configure sFTP for 5 additional LHDs using the County CD database. July-September 2005.
- Add Oregon Medical Laboratory microbiology routing to LHDs, April-June 2005.
- Based on NBS evaluation, expand its use to 2 additional LHDs, July-September 2005.
- Route Oregon State Public Health HL7 data to LHDs, January-March 2006.
- Summary report of Year 1 ELR QC plan, January-March 2006.
- Develop and test XML message from current state CD database to CDC, April-June 2005.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of PID data for surveillance activities, July-September 2005.
- Increase number of eSentinel reporters to include at least on representative from every LHD, April-June 2005.
- Effectiveness will be measured through the enhancement of notifiable condition surveillance and disease control capabilities.
West Nile Virus
- The number of specimens tested and the proportion positive for each of the following: humans, horses, dead birds, sentinel chickens, and mosquito pools.
- For human cases, the proportion with an identified source of infection.
- Number of VCDs and LHDs that participate in our workshops.
- Number of materials distributed to the general public.
- Total circulation/impressions from media outlets covering WNV press releases and PSAs.
- Monthly hits to our state's WNV website, including public information and provider information pages.
