Epi and Lab Capacity Program > Grantees > New Jersey

Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement Program
Funding Initiated In 1995

FY05 Funding April 1, 2005 through March 31, 2006 - $1,150,997

Activities Proposed for FY 05

Antimicrobial Resistance, Food Safety, Hepatitis Prevention and Control, Influenza Surveillance and Response, National Electronic Disease Surveillance System, West Nile Virus, and Prion Disease

Key Performance Indicators

Antimicrobial Resistance
  • Formal evaluation of conference through the use of evaluation forms: completed by conference participants.
Food Safety
  • A continuous review of foodborne disease investigations and reporting by LHDs for timeliness and completeness will ensure effective measures.
Hepatitis Prevention and Control
  • Changes will be made to program based on results of evaluation.
Influenza Surveillance and Response
  • Internal Validity—the multiple reporting avenues of ILI should be consistent and confirming.
  • Criterion Validity—Laboratory testing and culturing are the "gold standards" of accurate evaluation. By establishing a statewide network for submission of samples, it is expected that syndromic activity will be quickly confirmed.
National Electronic Disease Surveillance System
  • A continued interaction within the Surveillance community will support the coalition.
West Nile Virus
  • The number of active users in the WNV/GIS web based system will be one of the parameters utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of New Jersey's WNV program.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease
  • Results from CJD surveillance will be compared to results from biopsy and autopsy tissue specimens.
