Proactive Surveillance: Goals and Objectives

  • Provide early and precise information
    • time
    • location
    • virus serotype
    • disease severity
  • Predict dengue transmission and guide implementation of control measures
  • Link clinical and entomologic surveillance
The objective of a proactive dengue surveillance system is to provide early and precise information on four key aspects of disease activity: time, location, virus serotype, and disease severity. Analysis of this information provides the necessary data to predict dengue transmission and guide the implementation of control measures well in advance of peak dengue transmission. Proactive clinical surveillance must be linked with entomologic surveillance, in order to identify the time and place of transmission.
