About NHSN Training

What does the training consist of?

Currently, the training consists of archived Net Conference training sessions, as well as accompanying slidesets, as a method to ensure proper training of all NHSN users. Training requirements differ depending on the role of the NHSN user. These training requirements are available on the NHSN training page: www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/nhsn_training.html

How do I connect to a live training session?

Connection to a live training session consists of logging into a website with a conference number and an audience passcode. The conference number will change with each session, so be sure to look up the appropriate information each time. The information for each upcoming training session is on the NHSN Training web site: www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/nhsn_training.html

Will I need a special plug-in for a live training session?

Although it isn't essential, the plug-in will be downloaded to your computer automatically the first time you join a conference. After that, it will not be necessary. If you have any concerns about making sure this works, you can go to the following site any time before the Net Conference and "test" your computer to see if it already has the plug-in.

  1. Go to www.mymeetings.com
  2. Click on the link for "Product Update"
  3. Under the Net Conferencing topic, click on the link "Download Net Conferencing Plug-ins"
  4. Click on the first link, "Check your browser".

How many people at my hospital can participate in the NHSN Net Conference Training?

You may have as many individuals participate in the training as you would like. We recommend that all persons who are likely to enter patient safety or healthcare personnel safety information into NHSN be included. For certain sessions, you may also find it advantageous to include Information Technology staff and/or administrators.

Are the training sessions archived so I can access them again at a later date?

The CDC has a permanent file on the NHSN website which allows you or your colleagues to "attend" any session that you missed or review any information that you may have questions about. These training sessions are available at: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/nhsn_pastTraining.html

Can we download a copy of these training instructions?
