Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
CDC has been working in Uganda since 1991. The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP)
Uganda office was launched in January 2000. CDC works with the Ministry of
Health and supports faith-based networks, civil society, and the private sector
so as to complement activities of the severely burdened public health system and
play a key role in ensuring the delivery of services and essential commodities.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Uganda was designated a focus country of the initiative and the CDC GAP Uganda became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
