Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) Malawi office opened in November 2001. Since
then, CDC has been supporting the Malawi’s Ministry of Health by developing and
supporting critical interventions in prevention, care, and treatment of
HIV/AIDS, including expanding counseling and testing services, assisting
scale-up of antiretroviral treatment, surveillance, and laboratory capacity
building.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC GAP Malawi became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
