Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) headquarters in Atlanta has been operating
since the Global AIDS Program was launched in 2000. The GAP office in Atlanta is
the administrative and technical core of all CDC global HIV/AIDS programs,
assisting field offices implement programs and share valuable lessons learned in
order to improve HIV prevention, care, and treatment and build vital laboratory
and strategic information capacity in developing countries.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
