Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS Program Nigeria office was launched in February 2001. Since
then, CDC has been supporting the Nigeria Ministry of Health in its efforts to
prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS, treat and care for those who are already
infected with HIV, increase laboratory capacity, and build infrastructure.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan
for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Nigeria was designated a focus country of the
initiative and CDC GAP Nigeria became a part of this unified US Government
effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
