Unwanted sexual intercourse

  • Percent distribution of females and males 18-24 years of age in 2002 who had sex before age 20 by how much first sexual intercourse was wanted:

      Female Male
    "I really didn't want it to happen at the time" 13.4% 5.8%
    "I had mixed feelings--part of me wanted it to happen at the time and part of me didn't" 52.7% 32.7%
    "I really wanted it to happen at the time" 33.9% 61.6%

Unwanted pregnancy

  • Percent of births in the five years before the interview to women 15-44 years of age in 2002 that were unwanted at the time of conception (i.e., the mother did not want  to have a baby then or at any time in the future): 14.1%.
