Adult Tobacco Use Information

Welcome!

The purpose of this site is to describe the history of the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) adult tobacco use questions and provide tools for identifying, accessing, and using NHIS adult tobacco use data, collected since 1965.

Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) questions were added to the NHIS Sample Adult annual core questionnaire in 2014 and were asked in the Sample Adult Cancer Supplement in 2015. Questionnaires can be accessed from the Guide for Data Users.
