The Miscellaneous Pain section (MPQ_C) provides personal interview data on several pain topics.
All survey participants 20 or more years of age were eligible.
The questions were asked in the household interview. The survey questionnaire can be found at the NHANES website.
Please review the file codebook for a listing of the regions of the body that were specifically mentioned during data collection for MPQ050. Responses to MPQ040 (How many weeks or months, in the past year did you have joint symptoms due to an injury?) were reduced to a single time unit (weeks).
Since the Miscellaneous Pain questions were asked in the home interview, the interview sample weights may be used in their analysis. However, if the data is joined with data from the Mobile Examination Center (MEC), the MEC sample weights should be used.
Please refer to the Analytic Guidelines, on the NHANES website, for further details on the use of sample weights and other analytic issues.
