NNHS Linked Mortality Restricted-use Files

 

Data File Description

The NNHS Linked Mortality Restricted-use Files provide mortality follow-up data from the date of NNHS survey interview through December 31, 2006. Mortality ascertainment is based primarily upon the results from a probabilistic match between NNHS and NDI death certificate records. The NNHS Linked Mortality Restricted-use data contains information on NNHS participant eligibility status, vital status, date of death, age at death, and underlying and contributing causes of death. Additional death certificate data are available by special request [PDF - 125 KB]. The NNHS Linked Mortality Restricted-use data files do not contain perturbed data.

 

Data Availability

Due to confidentiality requirements, the NNHS Linked Mortality Restricted-use data are accessible only through the NCHS Research Data Center (RDC)). Approved researchers will be able to analyze data from the NNHS Restricted-use Linked Mortality Files in the RDC. All interested researchers must submit a research proposal to the RDC requesting to access the "2009 NNHS Restricted-use LMF" (specify NNHS survey: 1985, 1995, 1997 or 2004). Special request variables [PDF - 125 KB], available separately, must be requested specifically, with additional justification, in the RDC proposal. Researchers will not be allowed to access variables from the 2004 NNHS Public-use Linked Mortality File in the RDC.
