CDC Offers Internship to Undergraduate and Graduate Environmental Health Science Majors

Atlanta - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invites full-time undergraduate and graduate students from accredited environmental health programs to apply for summer internships in its National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH). Interns will be assigned to the Center’s environmental health services program.

Interns will collaborate with experienced federal environmental health professionals, develop mentoring relationships and shadow senior officials and scientists. The 10-week internship is intended to foster an interest in public service in the field of environmental health. Interns receive a weekly stipend of $500 for living expenses during the internship period.

Eligible applicants must:

• Be majoring in an environmental health field in a program accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council. Participants in the Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program are also eligible.
• Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident with green card.
• Be enrolled fulltime at a college or university as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student. Students must be returning to school to complete degree requirements at the end of their internship, or the internship must serve as needed academic credit to complete degree requirements.
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

All applicants will undergo a background investigation. Applications are due Tuesday February 16, 2010 at 5p.m. EST. The internships begin on June 7, 2010.
