Step 4: Develop Instrument(s)

photo of people using computers3. Create questions appropriate for the audience and method. For example, focus group questions should be in a style and language that make sense to the audience. If you are creating an observation form/checklist, make sure your observers understand the terminology used and how to use the form. In general, quantitative methods should have closed-ended questions, while qualitative methods should have open-ended questions.

4. Pretest questions with the people who will be using or responding to the instrument. Get feedback about whether the questions make sense and if they're being answered. Revise based on feedback.
