Physical Activity and Health: A Report of the Surgeon General
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
This is the first Surgeon General's report to address physical activity and health. The information in this report summarizes a diverse literature from the fields of epidemiology, exercise physiology, medicine, and the behavioral sciences. The main message of this report is that Americans can substantially improve their health and quality of life by including moderate amounts of physical activity in their daily lives.

Prevent and Decrease Overweight and Obesity, 2001: Surgeon General’s Call to Action
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
This Surgeon General’s Call To Action encourages health care providers to help individuals prevent and treat overweight and obesity. At a broader level, it prompts all communities to make changes that promote healthful eating and adequate physical activity. It calls for scientists to pursue new research and for individuals, families, communities, and the media to work together to build solutions that will bring better health to everyone in this country.

Promoting Better Health for Young People Through Physical Activity and Sports
This 2000 report, written by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of Education and released by the White House, outlines 10 strategies to promote health through lifelong participation in enjoyable and safe physical activity and sports.
