During 2005–2009, overall, an average of 3,880 persons died from unintentional drowning (including boating incidents) annually in the United States. The death rate for males (2.07) was nearly four times that for females (0.54).
Energy Drink Consumption and Its Association with Sleep Problems Among U.S. Service Members on a Combat Deployment — Afghanistan, 2010
Service members drinking three or more energy drinks a day were significantly more likely to report sleeping ≤4 hours a night on average than those consuming two drinks or fewer. Those who drank three or more drinks a day also were more likely to report sleep disruption related to stress and illness and were more likely to fall asleep during briefings or on guard duty. Service members should be educated regarding the potential adverse effects of excessive energy drink consumption on sleep and mission performance and should be encouraged to moderate their energy drink consumption in combat environments.

Analysis of rates by age and sex revealed that giardiasis was more often reported among males in each age group (Figure 3). This difference was most pronounced among men aged 35–54 years.

Men and women were about equally likely to be in fair or poor health in all but the oldest age group; among adults aged 85 and over, men were more likely than women to be in fair or poor health.

During 2007–2010, male veterans aged 25–64 years reported higher levels of activity limitation than nonveterans (21% among veterans, compared with 11% among nonveterans). Significant differences were observed in activity limitation between veterans and nonveterans in males aged 35–44, 45–54, and 55–64 years. Activity limitation increased with age for veterans and nonveterans.
