Llelwyn F. Grant

Branch Chief, News Media Branch, Division of News and Electronic Media, Office of the Associate Director for Communication

Llelwyn Grant currently serves as branch chief for the News Media Branch assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC), Office of the Associate Director for Communication’s (OADC), Division of News and Electronic Media (DNEM).  The News Media Branch is responsible for overseeing and carrying out media relations activities in support of CDC’s Office of the Director and the agency’s public health mission.

Mr. Grant began his career at CDC as a public affairs specialist for the Office on Smoking and Health in 1994, and then joined the Cardiovascular Health Program as a health communications specialist in April 2001.

In October 2001, Mr. Grant was requested to serve on the media emergency response team at CDC’s Office of Communication in response to the anthrax attacks. He later joined CDC’s Division of Media Relations, recently renamed the Division of News and Electronic Media, as a senior public affairs specialist.
 
In November 2006, he became senior health communications specialist for the Coordinating Center for Health Promotion, having previously served as deputy director of Communications for the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotions.  He later served as acting enterprise communications officer for the Coordinating Center for Health Information and Service, from April to August 2009. 

In January 2010, Mr. Grant was reassigned to the Office of Noncommunicable Diseases, Injury and Environmental Health (ONDIEH) where he served as the senior communications and issues manager responsible for advising the Deputy Director of ONDIEH on the strategic direction of communications and issues management activities and opportunities as it related to noncommunicable diseases, injury and environmental health public health issues and/or threats.  He also functioned as a liaison to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, and the National Center for Environmental Health/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry in support of communications and issues management efforts occurring at the national center, division and/or program levels.

Mr. Grant has a journalism degree from the University of South Carolina. He also attended and completed the Department of Defense, Armed Forces Information Service, Defense Information School.
