Coartem, a drug composed of both artemether and lumefantrine, which was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in April 2009, is now available in pharmacies for the treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria infections in adults and children weighing at least five kilograms (approximately 11 pounds).
